Purpose
This procedure provides detailed steps for safely starting and operating the generator. It includes pre-start checks, start-up procedures, and monitoring during operation to ensure the generator functions efficiently and safely.
Scope
This procedure applies to all personnel responsible for operating and maintaining the generator. It includes operators, maintenance staff, and any other individuals involved in handling and overseeing the generator. This scope ensures that all relevant parties know and adhere to the correct start-up and monitoring procedures to maintain safety and operational integrity.
Pre-Start Check
Before starting the generator, perform the following checks to ensure all systems are ready for operation:
Check Engine Oil Level
- Ensure the engine oil level is within the recommended range (Speak with your supervisor to get the recommended range for Engine oil level).
- Add oil if necessary, using the type specified in the generator’s manual.
Check Fuel Diesel Level
- Verify that the diesel fuel level is adequate for operation.
- Fill the fuel tank if necessary.
Check Water Level
- Inspect the water level in the cooling system.
- Top up with water or coolant as required.
Check Battery
- Ensure the battery is fully charged and connections are secure.
- Check for any signs of corrosion or damage to the battery terminals.
Starting The Generator
Turn On the Ignition
- Switch the ignition on using the module control.
- This prepares the generator’s electrical systems for starting.
Press the Start-Up Button
- Press the start-up button to initiate the engine start sequence.
- The generator should begin to run.
Turn On the Circuit Breaker
- Once the generator runs smoothly, turn on the circuit breaker to supply power.
Note: Wait for a short while before turning on the breaker to allow the generator to stabilize.
Monitoring During Operation
While the generator is running, continuously monitor the following to ensure proper operation:
Check for Leakages
- Inspect the generator for any signs of fuel, oil, or coolant leaks.
- Address any leaks immediately to prevent potential hazards.
Observe Engine Performance
- Watch the engine to ensure running smoothly without unusual noises or vibrations.
- Verify that all indicators and gauges are within normal operating ranges.
Temperature Check
- Monitor the generator’s temperature to ensure it operates within the recommended temperature range.
- Overheating could indicate a problem that needs attention.
Note: The on-site staff should address minor issues as they arise. For any issues or problems that can't be resolved right away, contact a qualified expert or maintenance personnel for further assistance.
