Purpose
The purpose of groundskeeping responsibilities in a Ministry's policy is to ensure that the Ministry's outdoor spaces are well-maintained, safe, and visually appealing. This supports the ministry's mission by creating an environment that is welcoming, functional, and reflective of its values.
Scope
It includes the care and maintenance of all outdoor areas, such as lawns, gardens, pathways, parking lots, and recreational spaces. It covers tasks like lawn care, landscaping, irrigation maintenance, trash and debris removal, plant care, and safety inspections.
Definition
Groundskeeping: is the practice of maintaining and caring for outdoor spaces, including lawns, gardens, pathways, and other landscaped areas, to ensure they remain clean and safe.
Responsibilities: refer to the duties or obligations assigned to a person or group, requiring them to perform specific tasks or meet certain standards.

Equipment Operation
They operate and maintain various equipment and tools such as lawnmowers, trimmers, leaf blowers, chainsaws, and other landscaping equipment.
- Safety Inspections
They inspect outdoor areas for potential hazards, such as broken fences, uneven surfaces, or fallen trees, and take appropriate measures to address safety concerns.
- Seasonal Maintenance
Groundskeepers perform seasonal tasks like snow removal, salting walkways, and leaf collection during the fall.
- Record Keeping
They maintain records of maintenance activities, including work performed, materials used, and equipment maintenance, for tracking purposes.
- Customer Service
In certain settings, groundskeepers interact with visitors or residents and provide assistance or information regarding the grounds and facilities.
- Pest Control
Groundskeepers may be responsible for identifying and controlling pests, such as insects, rodents, and weeds, using appropriate methods and chemicals.
- Training and development
Groundskeeping staff are encouraged to participate in ongoing training and professional development opportunities to enhance their skills and knowledge. The organization will provide necessary training related to safety, equipment use, and best practices in ground maintenance.
- Performance review
Groundskeeping staff will undergo regular performance evaluations usually quarterly per annum (once every three months), to assess their adherence to this policy and overall job performance. Feedback will be provided to support continuous improvement and address any area of concern.
