Policy - Maintenance Safety
Purpose
The purpose of these safety rules is to prioritize the well-being of all maintenance personnel by enforcing strict safety protocols in the workplace. These guidelines are designed to prevent accidents, minimize hazards, and ensure that all staff are properly trained and equipped to handle potentially dangerous tasks, particularly those involving electrical work. The rules aim to foster a safe working environment and ensure swift communication and action in emergencies.
Scope
These safety rules apply to all maintenance staff, specifically regarding using machines, tools, and equipment and managing restricted areas. The scope includes safety training, adherence to proper safety protocols during electrical work, and the prevention of hazardous conditions in the workplace. It also covers the supervision and restriction of access to work areas, ensuring only authorized personnel are allowed in designated maintenance spaces.
Policy Statement
Restricted Area
No unapproved personnel should be in the Grounds Maintenance office: only those working in the department are permitted. Approval for entry must be obtained from Ignition Leadership (Ignition Directors & Shop Manager).
Training
Proper training and supervision are required for all machines and tools. If you do not have training working with a piece of equipment, please communicate that to your supervisor before use.
Caution
Electric work can be very dangerous. It is vital you a re careful and cautious when working with electricity. Make sure you are following proper protocol like wearing the proper protective gear, ensuring power is off, staying away from open waster sources, and checking for live wires before continuing your work.
Hazard
When working on the electric, please ensure that others remain away from your work area. Residents and other staff should be clear of the area while you are working and all equipment should be kept neat and orderly to prevent any tripping or electrocution hazards.
