Section: Human Resource Policies
Policy Owner: Ignition633 Ministries Nigeria Human Resources
Policy Name: Coach Roles and Responsibilities Policy
Origination Date: December 2024
Purpose
This policy defines the coach's duties in ensuring effective football training, player safety, and the integration of Christian values in player development.
Scope
This policy applies to all coaches under the Firebrand football academy established by the ministry, covering training, safety, communication, mentorship, etc., and the promotion of Christian principles.
Policy Statement
Scheduling and Attendance
The coach schedules practices and games, makes use of the available players, and ensures the ministry’s activities are respected. Players must communicate with the coach for valid reasons to be absent.
Transportation
The ministry supports players who are residents far away with part of the transport and encourages parents/guardians to arrange transportation. Coaches should avoid transporting players alone, except in cases of emergencies, away matches, and travelling for competitions elsewhere.
Uniforms and Equipment
The ministry will supply uniforms and sports equipment, and coaches must ensure players wear them properly and maintain their condition. Any additional equipment, like cleats or water bottles, should be communicated to parents.
Emergency Protocols
The coach must have knowledge of basic first aid and CPR (cardiopulmonary resuscitation). They should have access to an emergency contact list for all players and be familiar with the nearest medical facility in case of an emergency.
Instruction and Development
Provide effective training to players, focusing on football skills, developing tactics, strategy, and teamwork.
Moral/Spiritual Building
Instill Christian values such as love, faith, honesty, forgiveness, humility, teamwork, and morals into players both on and off the field, emphasizing the effects of social vices and spiritual growth.
Safety
Ensure the physical safety and well-being of all players during trainings, competitions, and other activities. This includes proper equipment, warm-ups, cool-downs, and first-aid protocols.
Mentorship
Act as a mentor, providing guidance, encouragement, and support to players, addressing not only football-related challenges but also personal or emotional concerns.
Communication
Maintain open lines of communication with players and their families regarding team schedules, performance, and any concerns.
Disciplinary Actions
Implement and enforce team rules and policies consistently, addressing issues such as misconduct or unsportsmanlike behavior promptly.
Confidentiality and Privacy
Coaches are entrusted with sensitive player information, including medical history, emergency contacts, and personal details. This information must remain confidential and should only be shared with those concerned, such as medical personnel.
Personal Development
Continuously pursue professional development by attending coaching seminars and workshops and staying updated on the latest football coaching techniques and trends.
