Purpose
The purpose of this procedure is to provide clear, step-by-step instructions for properly sorting, washing, and drying laundry to ensure the best care for different fabrics, prevent damage, and maintain the efficiency of the washing machine.
Scope
This procedure applies to anyone responsible for washing laundry using a washing machine, whether at home or in a professional setting. It covers all essential tasks related to the laundry process, including sorting clothes by color and fabric, pre-treating stains, correctly loading the machine, selecting the appropriate washing cycle, and drying the garments.
Washing Procedure
Sort Your Laundry: Separate your clothes into different piles based on their colors and fabric types
Pre-treat Stains: If you have stained clothes, pre-treat the stains with a suitable stain remover or detergent. Follow the instructions on the stain remover packaging for the best results.
Load the Machine: Open the washing machine and load the sorted clothes into the drum. Avoid overloading the machine, as it can lead to inefficient washing and potential damage to the clothes or the machine.
Add Detergent: Read the detergent package for the recommended amount and add it to the detergent dispenser in the washing machine.
Select the Cycle: Choose the appropriate wash cycle on the washing machine's control panel. Common settings include normal, delicate, heavy-duty, or specific cycles like "quick wash" or "hand wash". All this are regulated by the machine
Set the water temperature: Select the water temperature based on the type of fabric you're washing. Hot water is best for whites and heavily soiled items, while cold or warm water is generally suitable for colored or delicate clothes.
Start Washing: Close the washing machine door and start the washing cycle by pressing the appropriate button on the control panel.
Wait for the cycle to finish: Once the cycle is complete, the washing machine will typically beep or make a sound to indicate it's done. follow the machine's instructions as needed.
Unload the Clothes: Open the washing machine door and take out the freshly washed clothes. Shake them out gently to reduce wrinkles.
Prepare to Dry: Hang clothes that can be air-dried, and use hangers or a clothesline. For clothes that can go in the dryer, fold or hang them up directly after removing them from the machine to prevent wrinkles.
Clean Machine: After finishing your laundry, leave the washing machine door slightly open to allow air circulation and prevent mildew. Periodically, clean the machine's drum and detergent compartments to remove any residue and maintain the machine's efficiency.
