Procedure - Pretreating Stains

Section: Human Resource Procedures
Procedure Owner: Ignition633 Ministries Nigeria Human Resources
Procedure Name: Pretreating Stains Procedure
Origination Date: June 2024

Purpose
The purpose of this procedure is to provide instructions for effectively pre-treating stains on clothing and linens before washing. Pre-treating stains ensures that tough marks, spills, or residues are properly addressed, improving the chances of stain removal and preserving the quality of the garments.

Scope
This procedure applies to anyone responsible for laundering clothes or linens that have visible stains. It covers the identification of stains, the selection of appropriate stain removers or detergents, and the correct application methods for pre-treating stains based on the fabric type and the nature of the stain.

Check for stains or soiling: Before washing, check each item for stains or heavy soiling. If you find stained clothes, set them aside for pre-treatment before adding them to the washing pile.

Stain Remover DIY Mixture
- 2 tablespoons hydrogen peroxide
- 1 tablespoon of baking soda
- 1 tablespoon of dish soap
Note: This can be used on any color clothing.

Directions
Spread the mixture over any stain; let it sit for a bit and then wash as directed.

Stain Remover for White Clothes
- 4 cups of water
- 1 tablespoon of bleach (hypo)
- Mix and set aside.
Note:THIS CAN BE USED ON WHITES ONLY! Read the directions to learn how to properly use this mixture.

Directions
- Apply liquid dish detergent to saturate the stained area and gently massage it in. Wait 5 minutes, then rinse with warm water.
- Mix the bleach and water solution listed above.
- Gently pour the mixture onto the stained cloth, making sure no parts of the cloth have any color (this solution will remove color from clothes!) Wait 5 minuets.
- Check the stain. If the stain remains, start back at step 1.
- Once stain is gone, immediately wash in the machine then air-dry on close-line.

Note: It’s important to keep clothing out of a hot dryer when working on getting a stain out. Once the clothing has air dried, check your progress. With very old stains, sometimes it’s necessary to repeat a treatment to get a stain all the way out.
