Policy Name: Driving Safety In Nigeria Policy
Origination Date: June 2024

As a ministry, it is important for us to raise law-abiding citizens and have employees who exemplify Christ-like character to the world by upholding the safe conduct of their profession as stipulated by the Federal government of Nigeria (Romans 13:1). Safety policies and procedures for professional drivers in Nigeria typically involve several aspects to ensure safe road operations. These aspects may include:

Purpose
To establish guidelines and practices that ensure safe and responsible driving for all employees operating vehicles in Nigeria. This policy aims to minimize risks, enhance driver awareness, and promote compliance with local traffic laws. By following these guidelines, we protect our employees, reduce the likelihood of accidents, and contribute to a safer driving environment in Nigeria.

Scope
This policy covers all driving activities, including commutes, transportation of personnel or materials, and travel for ministry-related functions. It outlines specific safety measures and practices relevant to the Nigerian driving environment, including road conditions, traffic regulations, and emergency procedures, to ensure that all driving operations are conducted safely and following local requirements.

Driving Safety Procedure in Nigeria
Obey Traffic Rules and Regulations
Follow all traffic laws and regulations, including speed limits, road signs, and traffic signals.

Buckle Up
Always wear your seatbelt and ensure all passengers are buckled up.

Avoid Distractions
Do not use your phone or engage in distracting driving activities. Stay focused on the road.

No Drinking and Driving
The Ministry prohibits drinking or smoking while on duty, whether driving or not. Never drive under alcohol or drugs.

Maintain Following Distance
Keep a safe distance from the vehicle before you to allow reaction time and braking distance.

Use Signals
Use your turn signals to indicate your intentions to other drivers.

Observe The Speed Limit
Adhere to posted speed limits, and adjust your speed according to road conditions.

Adapt To Weather Conditions
Drive cautiously in adverse weather conditions like rain, fog, or poor visibility.

Check Your Vehicle Regularly
Ensure your vehicle works well with functional brakes, lights, tires, and other systems.

Stay Calm And Patient
Maintain your composure and avoid aggressive driving behaviors like road rage. Always do your job with the mindset that you are like Christ and show Christ-like character.

Use Safety Seats
If you're driving with young children, ensure they are properly secured in appropriate child safety seats.

Respect Road Signs And Signals
Follow instructions from road signs and signals and yield when required.

Avoid Overloading
Do not overload your vehicle with passengers or cargo beyond its capacity.

Avoid Fatigue
If you're tired, inform your supervisor and take a break. Fatigue can impair your reaction time and decision-making.

Yield Right of Way
Yielding the right of way entails letting other drivers go first. As required, yield the right of way to pedestrians, emergency vehicles, and other road users.

Stay Informed
Stay updated with the latest road safety guidelines and regulations.
