Employment Classification Policy
Purpose:
This policy establishes guidelines for properly classifying and compensating ministry employees, missionaries, and support staff in accordance with federal regulations while honoring our ministry's mission and values.
Scope:
This policy applies to all individuals serving within our ministry, including paid staff, missionaries, volunteer workers, and support-raised personnel within the United States and internationally.
Policy:
Employee Classifications:
Traditional employees receive regular wages and benefits through the ministry, following standard employment regulations including minimum wage, overtime, and tax withholding requirements. The ministry maintains accurate records of hours worked and ensures compliance with FLSA standards.
Missionary Classifications:
Support-raised missionaries operate as independent contractors responsible for their own tax obligations and insurance coverage. The ministry provides documentation of received support funds and maintains appropriate records for accountability.
International Personnel:
International workers must maintain appropriate visas and work authorizations for their service locations. The ministry assists with documentation and ensures compliance with both U.S. and host country requirements.
Documentation Requirements:
All personnel must complete I-9 verification and maintain current emergency contact information. Personnel files include signed agreements regarding ministry policies, support arrangements, and role responsibilities.
Compensation Guidelines:
Support-raised personnel manage their own support development and maintenance. The ministry provides receipt documentation and maintains appropriate financial controls for support disbursement.
Ministry Support:
The ministry provides training, resources, and administrative support to all personnel regardless of classification. Support includes orientation, ongoing development, and assistance with compliance requirements.
Review Process:
Classifications are reviewed annually to ensure continued compliance with regulations. Changes in duties or support arrangements may require reclassification.
