Procedure Name: Security Search Protocol
Origination Date: July 2024
Purpose
This procedure ensures the safety and security of Ignition633 Ministries by implementing a standardized procedure for conducting security searches on individuals entering or exiting the Ministry’s premises. This procedure aims to detect and prevent the entry of prohibited items, contraband, or potential threats while upholding the dignity and respect of all individuals being searched.
Scope
This procedure applies to all gate guards and authorized personnel conducting security searches at Ignition633 Ministries. It covers the procedures for identifying oneself, obtaining consent, and conducting searches thoroughly and respectfully. The procedure specifies the use of tools such as metal detectors and wooden searchers, as well as the proper handling and storage of guests’ belongings during the search process.
This procedure is of utmost importance as it maintains safety and security within the Ministry environment. It is carried out by authorized personnel trained to conduct searches respectfully and effectively while adhering to established protocols and legal requirements.
Definition
Security Search is the systematic process of inspecting individuals, belongings, or designated areas to detect prohibited items, contraband, or potential threats.
Search Protocol
A security search must be conducted once a person has been authorized and approved to enter our premises. A search is necessary for everyone who enters and exits the gate unless they have a *NO SEARCH NEEDED* identified on their ID or the Approved Person list. Here are the steps to appropriately search for someone:
Identify Yourself
If a guest has never met you, introduce yourself and tell them who you are and that you are the Gate Guard.
Consent
Let them know you will conduct a security search on them. You can say, "Before you enter the gate, I must search you."
Check Your Surrounding
Make sure the area you are conducting your search is well-lit. Also, check that you are visible to the security camera for your safety and the safety of others.
Search Guests
- Perform the search gently, and do not keep your hands in guests' bags. Follow these guidelines when searching:
- Ask them to bring items out of their bags themselves (if need be) or use the wooden searcher to gently move things in their bags so that you can see clearly.
- Use the metal detector to detect any weapon, dangerous objects, or weapons on visitors' or staff's bodies.
- Ask guests to leave luggage or bag at the security post if you need luggage or bag clarification.
- They should lock their property in a drawer or cabinet (as soon as we can get some for the security post).
- Guard any property left in your custody at the security post by a visitor to avoid further controversy.
Remember, you are not alone in this. If you encounter any challenges with staff or visitors during the search process, do not hesitate to call the security guards immediately. Your safety and the security of the Ministry environment are our top priorities. Also, remember to check the approved person list to ensure you are searching for the right people.
