Kitchen Rules and Safety Policy
Section: Human Resource Policies
Policy Owner: Ignition633 Ministries Nigeria Human Resources
Policy Name: Kitchen Rules and Safety
Origination Date: May 2024
Definition
“Kitchen safety is fostering habits that limit risks and prevent harm or injury while in the kitchen. Kitchen sanitation means keeping the kitchen and the objects in it clean in order to prevent illness.”
Timely
Arriving on time to work and from breaks is not just a rule, it's a crucial part of our kitchen's smooth operation. Your punctuality is highly valued. Please contact your supervisor if you are running late or cannot come to work. Corrective actions will be taken if you are tardy or absent without notice.
No Idle Hands
Stay focused and on task during work hours. If you need a task, please show initiative and ask for directions from your supervisor. It would be best to clean or prepare food for that evening or the following day when not cooking. Ephesians 5:15-16.
Commitment
No persons should be allowed in the dining area outside of dining hours. It's important that staff only work during their scheduled working hours. Your adherence to this policy is a testament to your commitment to our kitchen's operations.
Purchases
All purchases must be approved by your department supervisor. Items must be purchased on the same day funds are released. All purchases require a receipt. Receipts and change must be turned in on the same day of purchase.
Theft Prevention
Items or food are to leave the kitchen for any reason only if approved by the Department Manager. Raw goods, kitchen utensils, or other items should never be taken home. Any meals taken home must be a single portion in your container, and you must have an ITEM AUTHORIZATION FORM signed by your supervisor or the campus residence director.
Safety
Your safety in the workplace is a top priority. Inform your supervisor immediately if unsafe conditions, accidents, or injuries occur. All safety rules must always be adhered to.
Restricted Area
No unapproved personnel should be in the Kitchen. Approval for entry must be obtained from Ignition Leadership Ignition Directors and the Kitchen Manager.
Training
Proper training and hygienic practices are required for all kitchen employees. You will receive training from your supervisor.
Caution
The kitchen has many hazards such as extremely hot water, gas, open flames, sharp utensils, and machines. USE WITH CARE AND CAUTION! If you do not follow proper safety measures, you may be terminated for your safety and the safety of others.
Hazards
Floors should be clean and clear of any materials throughout the day to avoid a tripping hazard. Sharp knives should never be placed in the sink to be washed but should be placed on the side of the sink. Water and other liquids should be safely stored from electrical outlets.
Distractions
Ignition633 Ministries does not permit cellphone use in the kitchen or dining area. Calls should be made during your break outside of the kitchen. If you need to make a call during work hours, ask permission from your supervisor.
