Purpose
The purpose of this procedure is to establish a standardized guide for performing basic upholstery work at Ignition633 Ministries Nigeria. This procedure ensures that all upholstery tasks, from assessment and refurbishing to finishing touches, are performed efficiently, professionally, and consistently to meet ministry and client expectations. By following this procedure, staff can enhance the durability, appearance, and functionality of upholstered furniture while upholding safety and quality standards.

Scope
This procedure applies to all personnel involved in upholstery work at Ignition633 Ministries Nigeria. It covers every stage of the upholstery process, including assessing and refurbishing furniture, removing old upholstery materials, repairing frames and structural components, measuring and cutting materials, assembling and padding furniture, applying upholstery fabric, and adding finishing touches and performing final inspections.

How To Perform Basic Upholstery Work
Assessment and 
Refurbishing

- Inspect the furniture to identify issues such as fabric tears, padding damage, or frame instability.
- Document specific repairs or modifications needed.
- Plan a timeline and communicate it to the supervisor or client. 

Material and Equipment Preparation 
- Determine and prepare a list of required materials (fabric, foam, staples, adhesives, etc.) and tools.
- Ensure all tools and machinery are in good working condition before starting.

Organize the workspace for efficiency and safety. 

Removal of Old Upholstery
- Remove staples, tacks, and old fabric carefully using staple pullers or pliers.
- Label and set aside reusable components like zippers or buttons.
- Discard worn-out materials safely to avoid clutter. 

How To Repair Frames and Structures
- Tighten screws, bolts, or other joinery elements.
- Repair or replace damaged wooden or metal frames.
- Sand and refinish wooden components if needed.
- Verify structural integrity before proceeding to the next stage.

Cutting Materials
- Measure the furniture dimensions carefully using a tape measure.
- Mark fabric and foam with chalk or pencils for cutting.
- Cut materials using fabric scissors or electric cutters. 
- Double-check cut pieces against measurements to ensure accuracy. 

 Assembly and Padding
- Attach foam padding to the furniture frame using adhesives or staples.
- Add batting for a smooth, cushioned finish.
- Ensure even distribution and secure the padding firmly.
- Ensure accurate measurement and fittings of foams. 

How to Apply Upholstery Fabric  
- Align the fabric with the furniture, ensuring patterns or seams are straight.
- Stretch and staple the fabric to the frame, starting from the center and moving outward.
- Fold corners neatly and secure them with additional staples.
- Trim excess fabric carefully with scissors.

Finishing Touches
- Attach decorative elements like buttons, piping, or trims (in specification to the client's demands).
- Reassemble components, such as cushions or frames.
- Perform a final inspection to ensure quality and uniformity.
