This policy aims to enhance task management and supervision by setting SMART goals, planning and scheduling effectively, inspecting work progress, and providing constructive feedback.
Scope
This policy applies to all master carpenters and supervisory personnel at Ignition633 Ministries Nigeria. It outlines their responsibilities in setting goals, managing time, inspecting ongoing tasks, and delivering honest feedback. The policy is intended to guide supervisors in nurturing a supportive work environment that encourages employee growth and performance improvement.
Policy Statement
Set SMART Goals
When tasks are assigned to employees, set and communicate their SMART goals for completing each task. This will help them clearly understand what to do to complete their work and also help them know the exact things to look out for when supervising their work.
Plan and Schedule
Understanding the importance of time management and planning is one decisive way to manage your time wisely. As discussed in the previous chapter, assigning tasks to your employees is essential. After that, schedule a time to supervise all completed tasks thoroughly. You can do this by setting a reminder on your phone or making a supervision timetable, taking note of the details to look out for when supervising finished work.
Inspect
Do not wait until the task is completed before you supervise it. Instead, inspect work in progress and finished work for adherence to instructions and observance of safety regulations and practices, and conduct hazard assessments.
A supervisor should adopt an 'outsider's eye' to provide constructive criticism effectively. Thorough planning and keen execution of supervision for all departmental tasks are essential. Additionally, follow up on corrections to ensure consistent improvement in employee work quality
Give honest feedback
When supervising, evaluate employees' performance against standards, identify improvement areas, and suggest ways to enhance their work. Track recurring mistakes and address them in monthly progress meetings to provide feedback on their goals. Use positive language, such as "We can improve here," to ensure feedback is supportive and constructive
