Purpose
To ensure immediate and appropriate response to injuries or medical emergencies. These procedures aim to protect children's health and safety, minimize the severity of injuries, and provide basic care until professional medical help arrives.
Scope
Includes guidelines for responding to minor and major injuries, administering basic first aid, and handling medical emergencies. It covers training requirements for staff, maintaining accessible first aid supplies, documenting incidents, and following up with parents or guardians.
Definition
First Aid: is the immediate care or treatment provided to a person who is injured or experiencing a sudden illness before professional medical help becomes available.
Procedures: are established steps or methods followed to complete a task or handle a specific situation in an organized and consistent manner.
First Aid Procedures
This procedure outlines our commitment to providing immediate and effective first aid in the event of injuries or medical emergencies while children are under our supervision. Please follow the following guidelines in administering quick and effective first aid in response to injuries or medical emergencies involving children under our care at the Creche.
First Aid Supplies
- First Aid Kits
The ministry will maintain first aid kits that are adequately stocked and easily accessible in key locations throughout the childcare center, including the creche, play areas, and common areas.
- Equipment Maintenance
First aid kits and equipment will be regularly checked, and any expired or damaged items will be promptly replaced.
Trained Personnel
- First Aid Training
- All childcare employees will be trained and certified to administer first aid treatment. They will be responsible for responding to medical emergencies once training and certification is complete.
- All first aiders will receive regular first aid training to stay up-to-date with the latest techniques and guidelines, including pediatric first aid.
First Aid Procedures
-Assessment
First aiders will assess the nature and severity of injuries or medical emergencies and provide assistance accordingly.
- Calling for Professional Help
In severe injuries or life-threatening emergencies, designated first aiders will call emergency services immediately. Parents or guardians will be notified promptly.
- Providing First Aid
First aiders will administer first aid per their training and ensure the safety and comfort of the child.
Reassurance and Communication
Parents or guardians will be informed of any incidents and the actions taken as soon as possible. Communication with parents is crucial.
Record Keeping
Detailed records of first aid incidents, including what happened, the treatment provided, and any observations, will be documented and reported to management.
