Diapering and Hygiene Procedure
Purpose:
This procedure establishes standardized guidelines for diaper changing practices in our creche to ensure proper hygiene, prevent the spread of infectious diseases, and promote the health and comfort of infants and toddlers under our care. By following these procedures, our staff can maintain a clean and safe environment while providing essential care to children who are not yet toilet trained.
Scope:
This procedure applies to all creche staff responsible for changing diapers. It covers the diaper changing process within the creche, emphasizing hygiene practices and safe handling of materials. These guidelines are applicable to both disposable and cloth diapers used in our creche and align with local childcare regulations.
Diapering Procedure:

Preparation

Gather all necessary supplies from the diaper changing station.

Place a disposable changing pad on the creche's changing table.

Diaper Removal

Undo the soiled diaper and clean the child's diaper area with wipes.

Use wipes from front to back to prevent urinary tract infections.

Place soiled wipes inside the dirty diaper.

Cleaning and Drying

Clean the child's bottom thoroughly, paying attention to skin folds.

Allow the skin to air dry or gently pat dry with a clean cloth.

Apply diaper cream if necessary, using a tissue or gloved finger.

Diaper Application

Put on a clean diaper, ensuring a snug but comfortable fit.

Fasten the diaper securely.

Dress the child and wash their hands at the child-height sink.

Clean-up and Disposal

Remove gloves and dispose of them along with the soiled diaper in the designated diaper bin.

For cloth diapers, place in the sealed container for soiled cloth diapers.

Clean and disinfect the changing table with the sanitizing solution.

Record the diaper change in the child's daily log, noting any irregularities or concerns.
Hand Hygiene:

Before Diaper Change
-
Wash hands at the sink with soap and water for at least 20 seconds.

Dry hands with a disposable paper towel.

Put on disposable gloves from the creche's supply.

After Diaper Change
-
Remove gloves and dispose of them in the designated bin.

Wash hands thoroughly at the sink with soap and water for at least 20 seconds.

Use a paper towel to turn off the faucet.
