CDL Driving and Vehicle Operation Policy

Purpose:
This policy outlines the essential procedures and requirements for CDL driving operations within Ignition633 Ministries. It aims to ensure compliance with federal regulations, promote safety, and maintain accurate records of vehicle use and driver activities. By adhering to these guidelines, we strive to create a culture of responsibility among our drivers while minimizing risks associated with commercial vehicle operations.

Scope:
This policy applies to all CDL drivers employed by or operating commercial vehicles on behalf of Ignition633 Ministries. It covers daily vehicle inspections, log-keeping practices, equipment requirements, and compliance with DOT regulations. The policy encompasses all commercial driving activities, regardless of trip duration or frequency, and is applicable to both regular and occasional drivers operating our vehicles.

Policy:

Audits and Vehicle Inspection:
CDL audits will be conducted at random every 12 months. The Drivers Vehicle Inspection Report (DVIR) must be completed daily using the federally approved form. The white copy must be submitted to the supervisor, while the carbon copy is to be retained in the book. If the form is unable to be submitted in person, a photo of the completed DVIR must be taken and sent to the supervisor via email. Drivers are to skip inapplicable items and note any changes. If a safety issue is identified, the vehicle must not be operated until repairs are made. The supervisor will provide orientation on truck features and inspection points.

Daily Logs and Documentation:
The Drivers Daily Log must include the month, year, driver, carrier, tractor/truck number, and trailer number. For example, logs must start with "off duty till 7am" with a line drawn until 7am. "On Duty (Not Driving)" is to be used for non-driving work activities. Total Driving Miles Today and Total Mileage Today (current odometer reading) must be recorded. Both the inspection sheet and driver log must be completed daily when the vehicle is used, but no documentation is required for days the vehicle is not in use.

Safety and Equipment Requirements:
Drivers must strictly adhere to posted speed limits at all times. Required vehicle equipment includes one fire extinguisher, six spare fuses or three liquid fluid flares, and warning devices for breakdowns. Drivers must carry their DOT physical card while driving, which may be kept in the truck. For vehicles under 10,000 lbs., no DOT number is required, but for vehicles over 10,000 lbs., the DOT number must be displayed.

Compliance:
Compliance with this policy is mandatory for all CDL drivers. Failure to adhere to these guidelines will result in disciplinary action. For any questions or clarifications, drivers are to consult with their supervisor.
