Emergency Response Protocol
 
Purpose:
To equip creche staff with essential first aid and CPR skills, enabling them to respond effectively to common childhood injuries, illnesses, and emergencies. This protocol aims to enhance child safety, minimize health risks, and ensure immediate, appropriate care when needed. 
 
Scope:
This protocol covers first aid and CPR training for all creche staff. It includes initial and refresher training requirements, skill assessments, staffing ratios for trained personnel, maintenance of supplies, and incident documentation. The scope applies to all staff working directly with children, ensuring readiness for common childhood medical emergencies. 
 
First Aid:

First Aid Kits:
The ministry will maintain first aid kits that are adequately stocked and easily accessible in key locations throughout the childcare center, including the creche, play areas, and common areas. 
 
Equipment Maintenance:
First aid kits and equipment will be regularly checked, and any expired or damaged items will be promptly replaced. 
 
Trained Personnel:

First Aid Training:
All childcare employees will be trained and certified to administer first aid treatment. They will be responsible for responding to medical emergencies once training and certification are complete. All first aiders will receive regular first aid training to stay up to date with the latest techniques and guidelines, including pediatric first aid. 
 
First Aid Procedures:

Assessment:
First aiders will assess the nature and severity of injuries or medical emergencies and aid accordingly.
 
Calling For Professional Help:
In severe injuries or life-threatening emergencies, designated first aiders will call emergency services immediately. Parents or guardians will be notified promptly. 
 
Providing First Aid:
First aiders will administer first aid per their training and ensure the safety and comfort of the child. 
 
Reassurance and Communication:
Parents or guardians will be informed of any incidents and the actions taken as soon as possible.
 
Record Keeping:
Detailed records of first aid incidents, including what happened, the treatment provided, and any observations, will be documented and reported to management. 
  
CPR Training Requirements:

Initial Training:
All newly hired childcare workers must complete a CPR training course within the first 90 days of their employment.

Certification Renewal:
CPR certification must be renewed every two years to ensure that childcare workers remain current in their CPR skills.  

Training Providers:
CPR training sessions will be conducted by the ministry’s doctor, who is duly certified and authorized to provide CPR training following regulations governing healthcare professionals.

Content:
CPR training must cover adult, child, and infant CPR techniques, including chest compressions, rescue breathing, and using an Automated External Defibrillator (AED) properly.

Training Implementation:

Scheduling:
The childcare designated supervisor is responsible for scheduling CPR training sessions for all childcare workers.

Cost Coverage:
The ministry will cover the cost of CPR training and certification for all childcare workers

Attendance:
Attendance at CPR training sessions is mandatory for all childcare workers. Any scheduling conflicts must be reported to the supervisor in advance.
 
Documentation:
Childcare workers must provide documentation of CPR certification to the principal upon completion of training. This documentation will be kept on file and monitored for renewal. 
 

Responsibilities:

Principal/ Supervisor:
Collaborates with Campus Doctor to coordinate CPR training sessions, ensuring compliance with training requirements, maintaining documentation of CPR certification, and monitoring certification renewal deadlines. 
 

Childcare Workers: 
Responsible for attending CPR training sessions, actively participating in training, maintaining current CPR certification, and providing certification documentation to the supervisor as required. Failure to comply with CPR training requirements may result in corrective action, including suspension or termination of employment.
